Films on Demand & Streaming Video: For Faculty

Films on Demand for Faculty

You can link to or embed Films on Demand videos in Moodle or other online platforms. To use this option, click  Linkunder the playback window.

To link to a video, follow these steps:

  1. Copy the Record URL and paste in Moodle (or other platform).
  2. When off campus, students will first have to sign in with their myVGCC (WebAdvisor) credentials to view the video.

To embed a video, follow these steps:

  1. Copy the Embed Code and paste in appropriate Moodle location (or other platform).
  2. After pasting the embed code, find the video URL in the code (begins src=https://fod-infobase-com.vgcc.idm.oclc.org/) and replace fod-infobase-com.vgcc.idm.oclc.org with fod.infobase.com.

Films on Demand allows users to select and save custom clips or segments. So if you only need your class to see specific sections of a video, you can select those segments, create a custom playlist, then link to or embed the playlist in Moodle. To create a custom segment

  1. Under the player window, click Segment to create a new segment. (If not already signed in, you will be prompted to sign in or create a user account.)
  2. In the player window, move the video to the beginning of the segment you want to save and in the Custom Segments window, click  Set Start Time.
  3. Move the player to the end of the segment you want to save, then click Set End Time.
  4. To set a thumbnail image, move the video to the desired frame, then click 
  5. Enter a Title (required) and Description (optional) for the segment, then click Create Segment.
  6. The new segment will now be available to add to playlists.

To add a video to a Playlist, click the Add to button underneath the video window. (If not signed in to your account, you will be asked to do so or prompted to create an account, if you do not have one.)

  1. Click "Playlist."
  2. On the Playlist menu, select the part of the video to add. Select "Add Full Title" for the entire video or one of the list segments. If you have created any custom segments, they will be in the list. Hold Ctrl to select multiple segments.
  3. Select the playlist you want to use from the drop down menu.
  4. To create a new playlist, type the playlist name in the second box and click "New Playlist," then select that folder from the drop-down menu.
  5. Click "Add To Playlist" then close the pop up window.
  6. To view, edit and share your playlists, click on the profile button in the upper right of any page, then select "My Content."

Once you have created custom segments and playlists, you can share them with your students and colleagues. To embed or link to your custom content, follow these steps. (If not signed in to your account, you will be asked to do so or prompted to create an account, if you do not have one.)

  1. Click on the profile button in the upper right of the page.
  2. Click on "My Content"
  3. Find the playlist or segment you want to share.
  4. On the right end of the row, click the "Action" drop down menu and select "Share."
  5. Under "Share To," select "Embed/Link."
  6. Choose the way you want to share the content, highlight the URL or Embed code, and click "Copy."
  7. Paste the copied URL or Embed Code into the email, Moodle, or however you choose to share it.

Feature Films for Education for Faculty

You can link to videos from Feature Films for Education in Moodle or other online platforms. To use this option, click </>Embed/Link under the film title.

To link to a video page, copy the Record URL and paste in Moodle (or other platform). When off campus, students will first have to sign in with their myVGCC (WebAdvisor) credentials to view the video.

Creating an account is simple and free, and allows you to access some of the more advanced features of Feature Films for Education. Once you create an account in Feature Films or Films on Demand, you can use the account in both.

To create an account in Feature Films for Education:

  1. Click Your Profilein the upper right of the page.
  2. In the Login window, click "New user? Sign up."
  3. Fill in the required information and click "Create Account".

To add a video to your Favorites, click the Add to button for the video. (If not signed in to your account, you will be asked to do so or prompted to create an account, if you do not have one.)

  1. From the dropdown box, select the favorites folder you want to save the video to.
  2. To create a new favorites folder, type the name in the second box and click "New Folder," then select that folder from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click "Add to Folder" then close the pop-up window.

To manage your favorites

  1. Click on user profile menu in the upper right of any page, then select "My Favorites."
  2. From here you can view or delete favorite videos, organize videos into new or existing folders, and get embed codes or link URLs.
  3. Your favorites list will include favorites from Films on Demand as well as Feature Films for Education.
