About Academic Videos Online

Academic Video Online is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary video subscription that supports the entire range of curriculum, from anthropology to zoology. It includes a variety of video material available with curricular relevance: documentaries, interviews, feature films, performances, news programs and newsreels, and demonstrations. Patrons will find thousands of award-winning films, including Academy®, Emmy®, and Peabody® winners. Academic institutions will find frequently used films for classroom instruction, plus newly released films and previously unavailable archival material.

How to Use Films on Demand

To Navigate to Academic Video Online:

  1. From the library webpage, select the "Videos" tab.
  2. On the Videos page, under the search box, find the "Multidisciplinary Videos" box and select "Academic Video Online (ProQuest).
  3. In the new browser window, click on the red button for "Browse or Search Academic Video Online."

Searching and Browsing Academic Video Online

  • Click in the "Search" box or Search icon at the top right of the page, and type in keywords for what you are looking for.
  • Click the "Open Search Filters" button to see the options available for refining your results.
  • Filter by categories such as Subject, Content Type, and Language by clicking the different categories.
  • You can also search for specific search filters by clicking the name of a filter category and typing in what you are looking for.

To view a video in Films on Demand or the Feature Films collection

  • Hover the mouse over the appropriate item, then click "See Details" for a preview window.
  • Click outside of the "See Details" button to go directly to the video page, then click "Play" under the video description.
  • To see more about the video, click "See full details" in the video description.

Academic Video Online includes a citation tool to help users properly cite the videos they use or refer to:

  1. From the video description page, click the "Cite" button underneath the video description.
  2. In the citation window, select your desired citation style from the drop-down menu.
  3. Highlight and copy the citation to paste into your Works Cited list. You can also export to several citation managers.
  4. Click "Copy Citation" at the bottom of the screen, then you can paste the citation where you need to.

Creating an account is simple and free, and allows you to access more advanced features in Academic Video Online.

To create an account:

  1. From any page in Academic Video Online, click the profile button in the top-left of the screen.
  2. From the pop-up menu, select "Sign In."
  3. On the Sign In page, next to "Don't have an account?" Click "Sign up."
  4. Fill out the form as requested, then click the "Sign up" button.
  5. From your profile, you can view clips and interactions you have created.
