NCLEX® Exam Information & Study Guides: Prepare for the NCLEX® Exams

The North Carolina Board of Nursing uses the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) prepared by National Council of State Boards of Nursing to measure competence for entry-level practice for graduates of Board-approved nursing education programs. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing has contracted with Pearson VUE to administer NCLEX.

To ensure public protection, boards of nursing require a candidate for licensure to pass an exam that measures the competencies needed to perform safely and effectively as an entry-level nurse. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing develops two licensure exams, the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN), that are used by boards of nursing to assist in making licensure decisions.
