Who is Hispanic?

This is a complicated question, and many different people have many different answers to it. The U.S. Census uses the terms "Hispanic" and "Latino" to refer to a specific group of people; someone who identifies as Hispanic or Latino is "a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race."

Oct. 1, 2022- Noche Latina Hispanic Heritage Festival
5:00pm-7:00pm
Free festival at Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary before the NCFC at 7pm. (Festival is free, but tickets to the game require purchase.)
Oct. 11-19, 2022-NC Latin American Film Festival
Various locations in Durham, Chapel Hill, and online. A week-long celebration of Latin American Film with movie screenings and discussions with filmmakers. All films and events free and open to the public.
Oct. 15, 2022- Hola Charlotte Festival
12:00pm-6:00pm-This street festival and cultural celebration in downtown Charlotte features entertainers and a Latin American cultural village.
Hispanic Heritage Month at WCPL
Multiple locations, dates & times-Wake County Public Library System has a full schedule of programs for Hispanic Heritage month for children & adults. Events are free and open to the public.

Sept. 29, 2022-Live! at the Library: U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón
7:00pm-Award-winning poet Ada Limón will give her inaugural reading as the 24th Poet Laureate at the Library of Congress, with an introduction by Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden. Event will be livestreamed on YouTube and available for viewing afterwards.
