TEAS Exam and Admissions

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is the entrance test given to prospective nursing and radiography students at Vance-Granville Community College.  It was developed in order to measure basic essential skills in the academic content area domains of Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English and Language Usage.  The objectives assessed on the ATI TEAS are those which educators deemed most appropriate and relevant to measure entry level academic readiness of program applicants.

In order to be accepted into the nursing and radiography programs at Vance-Granville, the TEAS exam must have been taken within the past 5 years.  Students may transfer in official scores from other schools if they meet the above criteria.  For the Nursing Programs (ADN, PN, and LPN to ADN Transition) a minimum score of 58.7% on the TEAS test is required.  Students are recommended to aim for a score higher than 70% in order to be competitive for admission into the programs.

In order to be accepted into a program for the fall term the TEAS exam must be taken by the end of March of the desired year of entry.

TEAS Exam Preparation

Students taking the TEAS test are strongly encouraged to prepare for the test.  Preparation is best conducted by purchasing the Study Manual and by purchasing and completing practice exams.  The options for preparation are listed below and are available through the ATI Website.

The fee for the TEAS exam will not be refunded upon failure to meet the required score.  Students will be charged the testing fee for each TEAS attempt.
